The heart of the ML centrifuge is its conical wedge wire screen basket, which is horizontally mounted within the housing. A slurry containing fine coal particles and water is introduced into the rearward portion of the scroll. As the centrifuge rotates, centrifugal force accelerates the slurry, causing the denser coal particles to be forced against the screen surface. The liquid phase, consisting primarily of water, passes through the screen openings and is collected separately. The solid coal particles are then transported along the conical screen surface by a helical scroll, which rotates at a slightly different speed to the main drum. This differential rotation provides efficient removal of the dewatered coal from the screen. The final, dewatered coal product is discharged from the large end of the cone and ready for further processing or transportation.
